WHITE GRAPES
The GAMBLE
VINEYARD is located at the northern edge of Yountville,
along the Napa River on old, silted flood-plain soils. This site
produces exceptional Sauvignon Blanc. It is evenly planted to the
vrais Sauvignon Musque de Loire and Preston Sauvignon clones.
Warm enough to achieve gorgeous texture and ripe stone-fruit
qualities, yet cool enough to retain natural fruit focus and crispness,
Gamble Vineyard is simply ideal for Sauvignon Blanc. Morning fog hangs
in the area during ripening time.
Tom Gamble chose his vine bud wood
by "Massale selection," an old practice of hand-selecting cuttings from
the very best vineyards.
Farmed by natural practices to promote
soil and vine balance, the result is pure fruit expression. The site is
managed for low yield, resulting in 4 tons per acre for Gamble
Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, and a mere 2.5 tons per acre for Heart Block
Sauvignon Blanc.
A new addition - Confluence Block - was recently
acquired and will extend Gamble Vineyard from the Napa River on the West
to Conn Creek on the east. Planting decisions are being weighed for
this exciting new addition.

RED GRAPES
Our proprietary red wines are made from four
Heritage Sites, each an elevation with distinctive qualities and
precedence. These vineyards are planted to the Bordeaux varieties and are
described as follows.
FAMILY HOME is an
Oakville district knoll-top vineyard, a family-owned site where Tom Gamble
grew up as a boy. It is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and micro-managed
for quality. Family Home vines produce classic and structured wines of
deep color and elegance.
RETREAT HOUSE vineyard is situated
at the base of the Mayacamas foothills in the St. Helena district. This was the Christian
Brothers retreat house property from the turn of the last century. Planted to Merlot,
this site achieves rich, smoky, dark colored Merlot.
MT. DIAMOND was the
first hillside vineyard in Napa, founded in 1862, and the place where Bill Davies later
grew up. This is a Diamond Mountain district site planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon.
This fruit produces wine of graceful power and brilliant black and red fruit tones.
PEPPER HILL is among
the highest points in the Carneros district. It is planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc,
which ripen fully here with impressive hang times. The wines show dark cherry,
natural brightness and quenching length on the palate.
